Do I need an appointment?
No appointment needed. Walk in Monday through Saturday during business hours and results are transmitted electronically to the DMV within minutes.

What does a smog check cost?
$59.75 flat — same price whether it's a standard smog check, STAR test-only, diesel, hybrid, out-of-state, or change-of-ownership. State certificate fee applies separately and goes to the DMV, not us.

Are you a STAR station?
Yes. Brand Smog Check Center is a fully STAR Certified Test-Only station at 1717 S Brand Blvd, Glendale, CA 91202. The STAR Program replaced the old Gold Shield and Test Only programs in 2013 — if your DMV renewal notice requires a STAR station, you’re in the right place.

What if my car fails?
Contact the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Referee Program at 800-622-7733 for dispute resolution and inspection assistance. Eligible drivers may qualify for repair help or vehicle retirement through BAR’s Consumer Assistance Program at 800-952-5210. Our techs can also walk you through general next steps.

Do you smog diesel and hybrids?
Diesel passenger vehicles 1998 model year and newer require a smog check — we do them. Vehicles with a GVWR over 14,000 lbs and gas vehicles 1975 or older are exempt under California law.

How long does it take?
Most smog checks are completed in 8 to 15 minutes. Walk-ins welcome Monday through Saturday, and results are sent to the DMV electronically.

Can you e-file with the DMV?
Yes — results are electronically submitted to the DMV within minutes of completing your inspection. No paperwork to drop off, no extra charge.
